HAZARDOUS MATERIALS MANAGEMENT/ HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL
At RAMTOX we take care of your hazardous waste needs. We manage the handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials. We additionally provide your industrial facility with absorbents, waste drums and hazardous waste labels.
What is hazardous waste?
Hazardous waste is any material waste with properties that are detrimental or potentially detrimental to human health and the environment. Hazardous waste is generated from many industries and can be anything from liquids, solids gases, and sludge.
A hazardous material is also anything classified as a solid waste. It is important to note that solid wastes is not limit to only physically “solid” waste. The RCRA definition of “solid waste” includes and is not limited to liquids, semi-solids, or contained gaseous material. ONLY materials that meet the definition of solid waste can be classified as a hazardous waste.
How to determine whether material is considered solid waste
- Does the material meet the definition of a solid waste?
- Is the material excluded from the definition of solid waste of hazardous material?
- Is the waste a listed of characteristic hazardous waste?
- Is the waste delisted?

Disposal of Hazardous Material
Hazardous waste that is improperly disposed of poses a serious threat to human health and the environment.
Cradle to the Grave
To follow proper management of hazardous waste, the EPA has established the regulatory program known as “Cradle to the Grave.” Cradle to the Grave safely manages hazardous waste from the time is manufactured, transportation, treatment, storage, and disposal.
Hazardous Waste Generation
Cradle to the Grave begins with the manufacture/ generator of hazardous material. Generators must determine whether their material is classified as hazardous and oversee the end point of the waste. Generators must fully document and record the hazardous material and its characteristics. Must properly document identified hazardous material, how it’s managed, and how it’s treated prior to disposal.
Transportation of Hazardous Waste
After its generation hazardous waste may transported to a facility that can then treat, store, recycle or dispose of the waste. The United States Department of Transportation hazardous material regulations apply to transporters of this hazardous waste.
Treatment, Storage, and Disposal of Hazardous Waste
Hazardous material can be recycled and reduce the consumption of raw materials and the volume of waste materials that require treatment and disposal. Temporary storage and final disposal of hazardous waste can be done at Treatment Storage and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs).
